Helping Young Adults & Families Heal Since 1989

Prometheus Family Support offers a unique style of counseling that is proven to benefit young people and their families. We use a holistic approach using Positive Psychology, Eco Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,  Hypnotherapy, and Creative Arts. These approaches help young people to find meaning and purpose in their lives while building on their strengths and not their weaknesses.
Our family counseling sessions can be thought of as communication classes.  We look at how each member in a family communicates  and how the family as a whole communicates. Communication is a key to healthy family dynamics, communicating effectively helps to deepen relationships, especially during important developmental stages. Communicating can be difficult when talking about emotionally charged subjects or past hurts, our counseling sessions model healthy communication so that all members in the family feel valued and heard. We help teens and young adults to discover their talents, while strengthening and focusing on what is working in their lives and how to build their futures from their strengths.  We specialize in substance issues, anxiety, depression, isolation and alienation.

We have offices in Soquel and Felton offering Individual, Family and Group Counseling. We have a sliding scale fee, please contact us for more information 831-239-2085 or

Positive Psychology is the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive. The field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play.

Eco Psychology is the psychology of human interdependence with nature. Ecopsychology advances our understanding of the human mind, emotions, behavior, and identity in the context of the natural world, other species, and the global environment. An ecopsychology paradigm draws from many sources including science and research, psychotherapy theories and practices, environmental ethics, literature, the arts, and spirituality. Prometheus uses Eco Psychology to Educate and Heal with Nature which includes aromatherapy, walking in nature sessions and mediation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps us become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking, so we can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way. It can be a very helpful tool in treating anxiety or depression. Not everyone who benefits from CBT has a mental health condition. It can be an effective tool to help anyone learn how to better manage stressful life situations.

Hypnotherapy is the western roots of mindfulness and relaxation training. Don’t let the word Hypnosis scare you or bring up images of stage shows or movies. All hypnosis is self hypnosis which means it is a skill that is learned, very important skills: learning to calm the mind, relax the body, and change deep-seated habits and beliefs through the power of your own mind. Young people love hypnotherapy because it gives them concrete skills that help them use their mind to reduce overwhelming feelings by learning how to communicate between their conscious and un/subconscious mind. Hypnosis does not put you to sleep, in fact, it wakes you up to your own inner ability to change and grow. We think of it as training to practice the serenity prayer: Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

There comes a time when talking about something no longer helps or serves the healing process. Certainly the first step is talking and understanding, and then sometimes the pain runs so deep it can only be expressed and released through the senses and that is art. We use music, poetry, literature, visual arts, dance, movement and mediation to assist in honoring the loss, pain, and betrayal that is so difficult to bear. Through the creative arts emotions move, are expressed, released, and honored.

Addictions, Attachments and Allies; an exploration of consciousness and healing.

We are a culture of consumers, we are attached to our things and we are addicted to other things. We are discouraged from exploring consciousness, rather we are offered mass media,  personal technology (our little screens), antidepressants, anti-anxieties, pain pills. Let’s face it pills are pushed on us for everything and alcohol is plentiful and cheap and yet we are chastised as addicts or substance abusers.  Our great imagination has been demoted to daydreaming (get your head out of the clouds), our night dreams have been all but forgotten. To find allies, meaning and purpose in life gives us so much comfort and joy.  In this series we will explore our personal and collective addictions, attachments and allies.

In this series, our allies will be the great diversity of Nature and our connection to the natural order of things.  If you desire to explore and expand your  consciousness, start by looking at your addictions, attachments, and allies.  This is an experimental group that will be fun, as well as serious.  Be prepared to expand your consciousness and  emotional range.  You will get out of your comfort zone and it will feel so good to remember the love of learning and wonder.
